Leave out companies and people you already have

Use an exclusion list or the Exclude controls on the Companies and People pages so a search skips records you already hold.

Both the Companies and People pages can leave out records you already have, so a search does not bring them back.

How do I add an exclusion list?

  1. Open Companies or People in the left sidebar.

  2. Scroll to Exclusions at the bottom of the Filters panel. On Companies it says "Leave out companies you already have, by domain or LinkedIn URL." On People it says "Leave out people you already have — by LinkedIn URL or email — or everyone at certain companies."

  3. Click Exclude a list. A window called Add an exclusion list opens.

  4. Choose how you give the list: Paste, Upload CSV or Loopster table.

  5. On Paste, type one entry per line, for example a domain or a LinkedIn company URL.

  6. Give the list a Name. The button at the bottom counts the entries, for example Add 0 while the box is empty.

The bottom of the People Filters panel, scrolled to Exclusions. The Exclude a list button, outlined in red, sits at the right of the Exclusions heading, with help text under it about leaving out people you already have by LinkedIn URL or email, or everyone at certain companies. Below is the Limit per company box.

The window says: "Companies on the list are left out of this search. Match them by domain or LinkedIn URL."

The Add an exclusion list window with the tabs Paste, Upload CSV and Loopster table, a box headed One per line, a Name box and the buttons Cancel and Add 0.

How do I exclude by a filter?

Many filters have an Exclude control at their right, for example Industry, Country and Keywords. Use it to leave out records that match that filter instead of keeping them.

On People, the help text under Seniority and Department explains what an exclusion does: "An exclusion removes records that hold one of these values; records with no value recorded for the field are kept." For Seniority it adds that excluding a seniority keeps people who have none recorded, "roughly half of them".

The top of the People Filters panel. Job title, Seniority and Department each have an Exclude link at the right. The Exclude link next to Seniority is outlined in red. Help text under Seniority and Department explains what an exclusion removes.

What else helps on the People page?

  • At specific companies and Worked at companies each offer Import CSV and Use a Loopster list. You paste one name, root domain or LinkedIn company URL per line. The page says person URLs are rejected.

  • Limit per company keeps "at most this many people from any one company, most senior first, up to 100". People whose company is not on record are not limited.

Good to know

  • Nothing is imported until you click Import to table. Importing from Loopster's own database is free, as described in the articles on finding companies and finding people.

  • Exclusions apply to the search you are building on that page.
