Stop a run that is going

This article shows you where the Stop controls are, what they stop, and what to do when cells keep running after you switch Auto-run off.

Where is the Stop button?

It is in the footer at the bottom right of the table, between the status text and History. The status text says "Table up to date", "Running N cells" or "N cells failed".

Stop is black and enabled while at least one cell shows Queued... or Queueing.... It is greyed out and disabled when the table is idle. It is also disabled when the only running cells are Wait cells showing "Waiting - 2m 52s left" or an AI cell showing "Processing...".

A table of companies with two AI columns, What they do and Founded year. Two cells in the Founded year column show Processing with spinners. In the footer at the bottom right the status reads Running 2 cells, the greyed-out Stop button is outlined in red, and History sits to its right.

What does Stop do?

In our tests, Stop stopped everything in the table, not one row. A message confirmed the stop. The Wait cells and a queued paid cell went blank, and the footer went back to "Table up to date".

A paid cell that was still queued when you click Stop leaves no line in Usage history, because it had not run. The Wait tool adds no usage lines.

Can I stop one cell?

Yes, for a Wait cell that is counting down. Hover the cell. A square appears at its right edge, named "Stop the function this cell is waiting on". The hover text says when the wait ends, for example "Waits until Oct 21, 4:59 PM, then the rest of the row runs."

A Wait column cell in row 1 that is counting down, showing Waiting and the time left, with the mouse over it. A small grey square sits at the right edge of the cell, outlined in red. Below the cell, a hover note says it waits until a set time, then the rest of the row runs.

In our tests, clicking the square blanked that cell, and the footer count dropped by one, from "Running 3 cells" to "Running 2 cells". No message or error appeared.

A small square icon also appears next to the play button in a column header while that column has queued cells.

An AI cell showing "Processing..." has no stop of its own.

I switched Auto-run off but cells are still running

What you see

You switch Auto-run off, and the footer still says "Running N cells".

Why it happens

The popover says: "New rows and values will not run on their own — trigger them from a column or row. Cells already queued still run." In our tests, Wait cells that were already counting down kept counting after the switch.

The table toolbar with the Auto-run popover open under the Auto-run button. The popover reads Auto-run Off, shows its switch turned off, and says that new rows and values will not run on their own and that cells already queued still run; that text is outlined in red. Column headers Full name and Job title and an Add rows line sit below the toolbar.

What to do

If Stop is enabled, click it. It stops the whole table, not one row. To stop one Wait cell, hover it and click the square. An AI cell showing "Processing..." has no stop control, and Stop is disabled while it is the only cell running. Wait for it to finish.
