Run columns safely: Auto-run, test one row, then run the rest

Check Auto-run, add a column without running it, test one row, then run the rest from the column header.

Running a column fills in its cells. This article shows you how to add a column without running it, test one row, and then run the rest.

Check Auto-run first

  1. Look at the top left of the table toolbar for Auto-run.

  2. Hover or click it to read what it does.

When Auto-run is Off, the app says: "New rows and values will not run on their own — trigger them from a column or row. Cells already queued still run."

The Auto-run Off button in the table toolbar, outlined in red, with its tooltip: New rows and values will not run on their own — trigger them from a column or row. Cells already queued still run.

When it is On, new values in the first column trigger the row workflow.

Add a column without running it

This example uses Company profile, which is free with Loopster Data.

  1. Click Add column, then Add enrichment.

  2. Click Company profile. It needs one input: a company website or LinkedIn company page.

  3. Click the input field and press /. You get a list of your columns.

  4. Pick Company Domain. The field now shows a tag.

  5. Do not click the main button, for example Add column and run 5 rows. Open the arrow next to it and choose Add column without running.

The column is added, but its cells are empty. Every row now has a play button (Run this row).

Test one row before running the rest

  1. Click the play button on the first row.

  2. Check the result.

Only that row fills in. The other rows stay empty.

Run the rest of the column

  1. Click the play button on the column header (Run column).

  2. The Run column dialog opens with two options. The numbers depend on your table:

    • Run all 4 empty rows. In this example, row 1 already had a result, so rows 2 to 5 were queued.

    • Overwrite all 5 rows. It re-runs every row and overwrites completed cells.

  3. Read the line under each option. For a free column it says Spends nothing from your wallet. For a paid column it shows a cost.

  4. Choose Run all 4 empty rows.

The Run column dialog with two buttons: Run all 4 empty rows, outlined in red, and Overwrite all 5 rows. Under each button the dialog says Spends nothing from your wallet.

If you close the dialog with the X, nothing runs.

Good to know

  • Auto-run is a setting for each table, and a new table can start with it on or off. Check it on every table.

  • Each column also has its own Auto-run switch under Run Settings. While the table's Auto-run is off, the column only runs manually.

  • After you press /, pick a column from the list. Picking a column replaces the /.

  • The row play button and the column play button are separate. The row button runs one row, and the header button opens the Run column dialog.
