Use AI columns and AI web research

Add an AI column that writes from your row data, or one that researches the web, and test a row before running the rest.

Written by Umer Ishaq

An AI column fills each row with an answer from an AI model. This article shows you how to set up one that works from your row data and one that researches the web, and how to test a row before you run the rest.

Add an AI column

  1. Click Add column, then Use AI. The Use AI panel opens on Generate, where you can describe what you want in plain words.

  2. Click Configure to set it up yourself.

  3. Click the column name at the top of the panel, clear it, and type a new name.

  4. Under Use case, pick Text/Data. It works only from the cells you give it, without internet access.

  5. The model shown is Loopmodel OG.

  6. Write your prompt. To use a value from the row, press / and pick a column, for example Company Name. It becomes a tag, so each row uses its own value.

  7. Under Define outputs, AI Response is set to Text.

The Use AI panel on its Configure tab with Use case set to Text/Data. The note Loopgent runs strictly on provided input cells, without internet access is outlined in red. Below are the Model, Loopmodel OG, and an empty Prompt box.

Add it without running, then test one row

  1. Do not click the main button, for example Add column and run 5 rows. Open the arrow next to it and choose Add column without running.

  2. The column is added and empty. Every row has a play button.

  3. Click the play button on row 1 and wait for the answer.

  4. Click the cell and press Enter to open its details. The answer is at the top, and further down Amount Spent shows what that one cell cost.

  5. Looks good? Press Esc, then click the play button on the column header.

  6. The Run column dialog shows Expected cost before anything runs. Choose Run all 4 empty rows. The number depends on your table.

The Run column dialog. Run all 4 empty rows is outlined in red, with an Expected cost line under it. Overwrite all 5 rows also has an Expected cost line.

Research the web instead

  1. Add another AI column: Add column, Use AI, Configure.

  2. Under Use case, pick Web Search. The panel says it researches each row with Google search and webpage scraping.

  3. Write a prompt, for example: "Search the web and find the year this company was founded. Reply with the year only." Press / to tag the Company Domain column as the company's website.

  4. Add it without running, then run just the first rows to test.

  5. While it works, each cell shows its status, such as Processing... or Queued.... Web research rows take longer than Text/Data rows.

  6. Open a finished cell with Enter. You see the Loopgent Trace (each step and how long it took), the Sources it used, and a Confidence level.

Good to know

  • Check the Sources before you trust a web answer. A web answer can differ from one run to the next.

  • AI columns are paid by the model tokens they use. See "Your wallet and keeping spend under control".

  • New AI columns are named Use AI, Use AI 2, and so on until you rename them.
